Flydubai orders 225 Boeing 737 MAX family aircraft

Flydubai has placed one of the largest ever orders for single aisle aircraft in the Middle East.

If all orders are delivered and options are exercised, flydubai will take delivery of 225 aircraft. At 2017 list prices, the deal would be worth $27 billion.

The initial firm order, announced during the 2017 Dubai Air Show, is for 175 aircraft. The airline says that “more than” 50 of the firm orders are for the 737 MAX 10 variant, with the remaining aircraft made up of MAX 8s and 9s.

Flydubai placed an order for 75 737 MAX aircraft along with 11 737-800s during the 2013 Dubai Air Show.

“We welcome the continuation of our long partnership with Boeing. Their airplanes have provided a foundation for the success of our business model, providing us with the operational flexibility and range to build a network of 95 destinations in 44 countries,” said Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, chairman of flydubai. “Understanding the demand for travel across our network, our innovative approach to our cabin design and developing a product unique to our market has allowed us to exceed our passengers’ expectations in their flying experience.”

Based in Dubai, the airline’s fleet currently includes 63 737-800s and three 737 MAX 8 aircraft.

“We are extremely honoured that flydubai has selected to be an all-Boeing operator for many years to come. This record-breaking agreement builds on our strong partnership with flydubai and the other leading carriers of this region,” said Kevin McAllister, president and CEO of Boeing. “With flydubai’s proven business model and ambitious growth plans, we look forward to hundreds of flydubai 737 MAXs connecting Dubai with the rest of the world.”
